Civic Society in Poland Takes Action

This year’s release of the Brown Book from the Never Again Association shows an increase in reported hate crimes. The report documents more than 600 xenophobic incidents. Robert Biedron, one of Poland’s best known MPs, has filed a formal parliamentary interpellation to Prime Minister Donald Tusk asking the government what conclusions it drew from the Brown Book and urging the government to act upon the evidence published by the Never Again Association.

Over the past months, a series of incidents have occurred in several Polish regions. Anti-racism experts attribute the rise in hate crime to an increased street presence of the newly formed far-right Nationalist Movement that has drawn its strength from the racist football hooligan subculture across Poland.

Fortunately, many antiracist organisations are ensuring a high participation from civil society organisations, defending the country’s multicultural history.
